Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Lucy is 14 today! My {heart} dog has been following me, without fail, for 14 years. I can't believe it. And, we now have three 14-year-old dogs, with Lucy the Queen of them all! This little lady joined me when she was just 16-weeks-old, and she's never left my side since.

Just a tiny tot, around 10 lbs., making the flowers look huge.

As a mini-Aussie, she was a cinch to train. She learned everything, including rolling over, within nanoseconds. At least it seemed that way. And everyone said we had to do agility, Aussies are naturals! So of course we tried. But Lulu had other ideas. Lucy didn't want to do agility. Lucy could care less about weaving poles, tunnels, or jumping. As a matter of fact, Lucy is such a Velcro dog that she wouldn't leave my side at the training facility. She flunked, basically! One night she went into the tunnel and sat down - it was real fun trying to get her out...

Agility? You jump and perhaps I'll follow.

She's my little girl. I mean, look at that face - the intensity in those eyes! She's been staring at me like that for 14 years. That face is the last thing I see at night and the first thing I see in the morning. It welcomes me every night when I get home. It even welcomes me when I go from one room to another, like I've been gone for days! She literally takes care of me, putting herself between me and much larger dogs in the house. I swear that she thinks she's a lion. So you can imagine how terrified I was with her recent health issues. I know that she won't be around forever, but maybe 10 more years? Is that too much to ask?

The best spot: a perch behind me on the sofa.
As a younger gal on her favorite rock, keeping watch - what else?!
A little older, still keeping watch, but from a more comfy perch - the back of the sofa, of course!
And still looking good at 14!

Happy Birthday, Lucy Lu!
